ENROLLING
Thinking about sending your child to Ruahine School?
All prospective enrolments
-
Ring or visit Debbie in the office to check that you are in zone.
-
If you are definitely coming, Debbie will post you an enrolment pack.
-
Make an appointment to meet the Principal.
Five-year-old new entrants
- It is suggested that you begin the above process about 10-12 weeks before your child is five years old.
- New entrants usually have 5 school visits before starting school. They come to school with a parent on a Friday and stay until lunchtime.
Older Children Enrolling at Ruahine School
- The enrolment process can begin when you are sure that you are enrolling your child at RuahineSchool. The time period will vary according to the individual situation.
- You can contact us by phone, fax or email and we will send you the relevant information.
- It is a good idea to visit the Principal and discuss your child's needs so that the class placement can be the most appropriate for your child.
- If there is time available, a visit can be arranged before your child formally starts at Ruahine School. New children are given a buddy to help them find their feet and settle in easily.
Ruahine School has had an enrolment scheme in place since May 2006.

Applications
Students who live outside the zone and wish to attend Ruahine School must apply in the annual ballot. Each year the Board estimates the total number of places that will be available for out of zone enrolments during the next year. Applications for these places are invited at the end of Term 3, and balloting takes place early in Term 4. The following priorities of ballot application apply at the school:
First Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
Third priority will be given to applicants who are children of board employees.
Fourth priority will be given to all other applicants.
If there are more applicants than available places, a ballot will be carried out under police supervision. The positions will then be offered to applicants in ranking order. If a successful applicant declines the position, it will be offered to the next highest ranking applicant.
Children may be enrolled at the time of their fifth birthday. The School is required to establish the date of birth of all children starting school for the first time. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is therefore required. A school enrolment form, a health card and a dental enrolment form will be given to the parent for completion and return to the school. The school must also sight each child’s immunisation records.
